Heat oil in a pan and add the grinding ingredients and fry them till the dal turns slightly golden color. Take the fried ingredients in a mixer along with grated coconut and grind it to a nice paste.
Steps to make Chayote (Chow-Chow) Dal:
- In a pressure cooker, add the diced chow chow, moong dal, onions,tomatoes, green chillies and tumeric
- Fill with water until the chow chow is submerged
- Cook it for 5 whistles
- Save some onins for later
- Once the pressure is gone, heat some oil in a deep pot
- Add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds
- When the mustard starts popping add the onions and chilli powder and saute for 2mins
- Next add the contents of the pressure cooker, mix well, add the required amount of salt and let it cook for 3mins
- Garnish with some freshly chopped coriander and serve hot with some rice
