To begin with this recipe, we must prepare a few ingredients. You can cook beer can chicken using 4 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.

The ingredients needed to make Beer Can Chicken:
  1. Take 1 whole chicken (4-5 lbs)
  2. Get Unsalted butter
  3. Get To taste chicken seasoning (not poultry seasoning, the two are different)
  4. Make ready 1 (16 ounce) can beer, whichever kind you fancy (I used Corona)

To increase the flavor of the beer, add it as an ingredient in a marinade or if you are going to barbecue the beer can chicken, add some beer to the sauce. Depending on which poultry roaster you use, either pour out half the beer and place the can in the poultry roaster and plunk the chicken on top of it. Or pour half the beer into the centre cup if your poultry roaster has such, plunk the chicken over the cup so it sits firmly. Tuck the tips of the wings behind the chicken's back.

Steps to make Beer Can Chicken:
  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and set the rack at the lowest position.
  2. Remove the giblets from the chicken and rinse the whole thing off.
  3. Get a deep baking pan, preferably a metal one, and line it with foil. (As you see in the picture, I forgot to do that and what a mess!) Open the beer, remove the pop top and position it in the middle of the pan. (I used a specially bought roaster for this process but I’m sure not everyone has one. If you do, repeat above steps, pouring the beer into the reservoir.)
  4. Shove the chicken butt down on the can/roaster, making sure it’s a tight fit.
  5. Rub the whole chicken with the butter and then liberally sprinkle the seasoning onto it, rubbing it in as well.
  6. Cook for 2 hours or until the little thermometer pops up.
  7. Let it rest for about 10 minutes then serve with a couple of side dishes and enjoy!!

The beer from the can steams the chicken, resulting in a perfectly-cooked whole chicken — burnished to mahogany perfection — no flipping, rotisserie, or special pan required.
